In Memoriam 2021

Yasushi Takeuchi

Yasushi Takeuchi was a director and coordinator at Sega, working on games such as Sakura Taisen, Dragon Crystal, Moonwalker, 3x3 Eyes: Seima Densetsu, and Blue Seed: Kushinada Hirokuden.

He passed away on July 3, 2021.

Masayuki Uemura

Masayuki Uemura was an engineer who began his career at Nintendo in 1972, working alongside Gunpei Yokoi on the development of several of the company's toys.

He became manager of Nintendo R&D2 and designed the Famicom and Super Famicom consoles, as well as accessories such as the Satella View, Famicom Disk System and the NES Zapper.

He left Nintendo in 2004, but is still an advisor to the company for the research and engineering departments.

He passed away on December 6 at the age of 78.

Koichi Sugiyama

Koichi Sugiyama photo

Koichi Sugiyama was a composer and conductor, famous for his work on the Dragon Quest series, having participated in almost every game in the series.

He passed away on September 30, 2021 at the age of 90.

Kentaro Miura

Kentaro Miura photo

Kentaro Miura was a mangaka, author and artist, creator of the Berserk series in 1989, which continues to be published today.

Berserk has sold more than 50 million units throughout its history, being considered one of the best-selling of all time.

The Berserk series has so far had 3 games made based on its story:

  1. Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage for Dreamcast
  2. Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Seimasenki no Sho for Playstation 2
  3. Berserk and the Band of the Hawk for PC, Playstation 3 and 4.

Unfortunately he passed away on May 6, 2021 while undergoing an aortic dissection.

Fukashi Omorita

Fukashi Omorita was a game designer and programmer who worked at Namco and was responsible, together with Nobuyuki Onogi, for the audio programming of the company's first games for the NES.

He passed away on April 11, 2021.

Robert A. Altman

Robert A. Altman photo

Robert A. Altman was a lawyer, executive, and co-founder of Zenimax Media with Christopher Weaver.

He passed away at the age of 73 on February 3, 2021.

Troy Horton

Troy Horton photo

Troy Horton was a game scout at Team17, credited since the game Wonder Dog in 1993. He worked on several franchises such as Worms and Tomb Raider.

He passed away in May 2021.

Mike Andrew Nash

Mike Andrew Nash photo

Mike Nash was a graphic artist, famous for his work designing the creatures in the game Horizon: Zero Down.

He sadly passed away at the age of 36 on January 21, 2021.

Gordon Hall

Gordon Hall photo

Gordon Hall was the founder of Möbius Entertainment, which would be renamed Rockstar Leeds in 2004 when it was acquired by Rockstar.

She passed away in March 2021 at the age of 51.

Mick McGinty

Mick McGinty photo

Mick McGinty was an illustrator, working on covers and posters for movie games, including iconic covers for Street Fighter 2, Streets of Rage 2, The Addams Family, Shining Force and Kid Chameleon.

He passed away from cancer on September 18, 2021.
