In Memoriam 2019

On this page we pay tribute to all the people who worked or participated in the world of video games and passed away in 2019.

You will view people by the year they died, remembering a little more about their work and their importance in the history of games.

Steve Bak

Steve Bak was a programmer, best known for his work in the 1980s for the Atari ST.

He also worked on games such as James Pond, Rolo and Spot goes to the Hollywood.

He sadly passed away on February 6, 2019 due to diabetes.

Ryan Ashley Brant

Ryan Ashley Brant photo

Ryan Ashley Brant was a game designer, producer and founder of Take-Two Interactive, working at the company as CEO from 1993 to 2001, then becoming President until 2006.

He unfortunately passed away at the age of 47 on March 23, 2019 due to heart problems.

Eric Martin

Eric Martin photo

Eric Martin was an actor and director, working on the 1995 film Texas Payback and the video game Command & Conquer, which is his most famous work.

He passed away in April 2019.

Rémi Gazel

Rémi Gazel photo

Rémi Gazel was a composer who became famous for the soundtrack of the game Rayman.

He passed away on May 26, 2019 after years of battling cancer.

Takashi Iwade

Takashi Iwade photo

Takashi Iwade was a Lead Artist at Sega, working on the Panzer Dragoon and Yakuza series.

He sadly passed away at the age of 50 from pancreatic cancer in August 2019.

Alec Holowka

Alec Holowka photo

Alec Holowka was a Canadian indie developer who worked on games such as Night in the Woods, TowerFall Ascension, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Paper Moon, and Aquaria.

He committed suicide on August 31, 2019.

Craig Goodman

Craig Goodman photo

Craig Goodman was a graphic artist, working on important Insomniac Games titles such as Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive and Spider-Man.

He sadly passed away on October 14, 2019 due to brain cancer.

Nobuyuki Onogi

Nobuyuki Onogi photo

Nobuyuki Onogi was a composer and sound programmer who worked for Namco and, together with Fukashi Omorita, was responsible for the audio of several of the company's games.

In 1985, he left Namco and began working as a freelancer for Masanobu Endo's Game Studio company.

In 1994, Onogi stopped working with games.

He passed away on November 11, 2019.

Brad McQuaid

Brad McQuaid was an American game designer, famous for the MMORPG Everquest which he helped create as the game's lead designer.

He sadly passed away at the age of 50 on November 18, 2019.
