Sega Genesis / Mega Drive

Picture of Sega Genesis

Sega Genesis is a 16-bit console by Sega that it launched to compete with the NES, as the Master System failed to match Nintendo's console in the United States and Japan.

Its success was resounding and it achieved what seemed impossible, which was to overtake its rival and capture a larger share of the market, something that would only change with the arrival of the Super Nintendo and thus the dispute between the two companies would remain balanced until the end of that generation.

Among its most famous games we can highlight the Sonic franchise, one of the console's best sellers, Streets of Rage, which catapulted the name of Yuzo Koshiro with a great soundtrack and several arcade hits that Sega tried to bring to its console as soon as he was released as Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Super Monaco GP, Out Run, among others.

The Sega Genesis hardware consisted of a 16-bit Motorola 68000 processor running at 7.68MHz and a Zilog Z80 running at 3.58MHz (same processor as the Master System).

Its GPU had 64KB of memory and was capable of delivering an image to the television in 320x224, 320x240, 256x224 and 256x240 resolutions. It had a palette of 512 colors and could display 64 colors simultaneously on the screen.

Its sound chip was a Yamaha YM2612.

Here in Brazil, Tectoy was responsible for bringing and maintaining the console in Brazil, doing a beautiful job just as it had already managed to do with the Master System.
