Neo Geo CD
The Neo Geo CD was SNK's second console, released on September 9, 1994, with a starting price of $399.
Its hardware was similar to the cartridge-based Neo Geo, but its advantage was the use of CDs, which were much cheaper, selling for $49 to $79, while the Neo Geo's cartridge cost $300.
Its main CPU was a Motorola 68000 running at 12 MHz, and a Zilog Z80 co-processor running at 4 MHz. It could display 4,096 colors from a total palette of 65,563 at a 304x224 resolution.
It was heavily criticized for its extremely slow CD drive and longer game loading times. SNK later released the Neo Geo CDZ with a double-speed CD drive to try to reduce loading times.
Its games were conversions of the company's arcade games, with only two exclusive titles: Crossed Swords II and Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits: Bushidōretsuden.
It sold approximately 570,000 units worldwide and was officially discontinued in 1997.
